On 11 July 2019 we became aware that because of a mistake by a third party we had engaged to assist in the running of a competition entered via Facebook, it was necessary to send an explanatory email using a mixture of personal and business email addresses to those people that had been informed in error via email that they had won a prize in the competition. The error we made was that all the email addresses were typed into the "to" box rather than "bcc" meaning that your email address was shared with other entrants.
I would stress that no other personal data other than your email address was shared.
We have conducted a thorough review of this incident and have taken the decision to self-refer the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We have also instructed data protection specialist, GRCI Law Limited to assist Blake Mill with our assessment and we have immediately put in place measures to prevent this from happening again.
Whilst there is no immediate cause for alarm, we would make the following recommendations to protect your information:
- Delete the email received from Blake Mill received on 11 July 2019 between 12.00 and 12.30hrs and refrain from replying to any emails from the addresses involved.
- You may wish to reset your password to your email account
Blake Mill Limited take the protection of the personal data that we process very seriously and value the privacy of our clients. We are sorry that on this occasion we have not reached the high standard that we set ourselves in this area and apologise for any anxiety, distress or concern caused by this error.
